Design contemporain finlandais - Promenons-nous dand to boid 29 May to
31 August 2008
Finnish design is now world-famous thanks to the great masters
of the interwar period, Alvar Aalto, Kaj Franck and Tapio
Wirkkala. Synonymous with purity, linear clarity and pinewood,
Scandinavian design became extremely fashionable in Europe from the
1950s onwards.
As part of the Finnish season in France in 2008, the Musée des Arts
Décoratifs is focussing on contemporary Finnish design, less widely
known to the general public which includes among other Finnish
designers the work of Tonfisk Design. Buoyed by the success of organic
and
fair trade design, wood has regained its letters of nobility
and there has been a resurgence of interest in this material and
as a
source of inspiration both in hand-crafted and industrial creation.
